Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Canadian Student Recruitment, the Domestic Student Recruiter works as a member of the Student Recruitment and Admissions (R&A) team to ensure enrolment management goals of the university at large are met. Student Recruitment implements strategic plans to advance the position of Wilfrid Laurier University nationally and internationally as a destination for high calibre students.
Domestic Student Recruiters make first contact with high school audiences of various ages and are a crucial point of contact for high school educators in Ontario. Recruiters are essential representatives of Laurier who develop and maintain vital strategic links with prospective students to Laurier Enrolment Services and the Laurier community at large.
The Domestic Student Recruiter is responsible for developing and delivering presentations to prospective students as well as supporting early engagement liaison targeting audiences in Grade 10 career classes aligned with high school curriculum. In addition, they will act as a support for applicant recruitment and conversion initiatives across all of Laurier’s campuses.
This position has a university-wide mandate and may be based at any of Laurier’s three campuses, to be confirmed at the time of job offer. The role is a strategic component of the University’s overall enrolment strategy and is a significant contributor to the public image of the University. This position supports events that will require some evening and weekend work.
Accountabilities
School visits and travel schedule coordination and execution
- Represent Laurier in the development and delivery of presentations to prospective students as well as supporting early engagement liaison targeting audiences in Grade 10 career classes. In addition, they will act as a support for applicant recruitment and conversion initiatives across all of Laurier’s campuses.
- Books and confirms high school visits by directly contacting and liaising with schools prior to and following recruitment visits.
- Coordinates, confirms and communicates details regarding the participation of Laurier staff who may lead or support the delivery of target school presentations.
- Develops and refines target recruitment presentations and content.
- Responsible for communicating key points and addressing individual student’s interests in both formal classroom presentations and informal student interactions.
- Provides detailed information regarding admission requirements to prospective students and applicants.
- Arranges all travel logistics in accordance with departmental and institutional spending policies.
- Travels within Ontario and surrounding campus areas presenting and speaking to groups of high school students and educators.
- Submits weekly visit reports, statistics, and travel expenses.
Implementation of applicant conversion plans
- Participates in the planning, delivery and execution of target student recruitment events and represents the university to applicants and their families during the crucial post-offer admissions cycle.
- Supports and participates in Student Recruitment On-Campus Events such as Open Houses, Campus conversion events, and Welcome Centre School Group events.
Participation in Recruitment and Admissions Training
- Attends training and meetings with key university stakeholders to develop an extensive knowledge base of the university, including all programs and student services.
- Participates in public speaking training program with individual and group critiques.
- Develops in-depth knowledge on wide variety of high school curricula, English language proficiency requirements and Laurier admission requirements
Qualifications
- University Degree, preferably from Wilfrid Laurier University.
- Excellent organizational skills. With the ability to effectively schedule, coordinate and plan recruitment and outreach schedule of activities and commitments.
- Experience with public speaking and delivering successful presentations.
- Effective interpersonal and public relations skills.
- Knowledge of Laurier's university programs.
- Willingness to share recent personal university experience with prospective students.
- Commitment to customer service excellence with demonstrated skill/ability in the following areas: written communication skills; dealing courteously and effectively with people; exercising good judgement and initiative; answering inquiries in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to work independently and set priorities.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Ability to be away from home for extended periods of time.
- Will be required to submit a "Vulnerable Sectors Police Check."
- Valid "G" driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle, with proven good driving record.
Hours of Work
This is a Full-time, Limited-term with an anticipated contract length of 8 weeks.
The normal hours of work are 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. Flexibility in hours may be required, including evening and/or weekend work due to periods of high volume. When possible, the manager will adjust hours to ensure no more than 35 hours are worked in a week.
This role offers limited flexibility regarding flexible work arrangements. Please see Policy 8.14 (Flexible Work Policy) for more information. All arrangement must be approved by the direct manager. On occasion, this schedule may need to be adjusted to meet operational requirements.
Compensation
- Level: D
- Rate of Pay: $38.80 - $41.02 per hour with an annual step progression on anniversary date up to $44.35 per hour. Considerations for new hire step placements include, qualifications and length/depth of required experience, relevant market rates for similar jobs, internal equity, and estimated learning curve in starting the job
