Position Summary:  

This course examines different possibilities for community organizing, exploring the limits and possibilities for each within the Canadian legislative and regulatory environment. It introduces examples, past and present, of how activists have sought social/environmental justice on the local, national and global terrain. Students assess organizing models ranging from not-for-profit charitable organizations to grassroots community initiatives to mass movement mobilizations in relation to the challenges and opportunities each presents for securing funding, empowering marginalized communities and politicizing issues. 

Qualifications – Required: MA, social and/or environmental justice training in the Humanities or the Social Sciences 

Qualifications – Other: A background in social and/or environmental justice practice is preferred for applicants, particularly in relation to the organizing approach/es and key topics covered in the position summary.  

MA required, PhD preferred. 

The successful candidate will be expected to familiarize themselves with the Social Justice and Community Engagement program and work closely with the Graduate Coordinator to ensure assignments reflect the needs of the program. 

Note: Individuals who hold a CTF position to teach a graduate-level course will be required to hold Special Graduate Faculty Status. A nomination will be submitted on your behalf by the SJCE program. 

Salary: $9206.40 subject to CA 25.2
