Position Summary

The Strategic Relationship Officer will report to the Program Co-ordinator for User Experience Design.

Laurier’s innovative and sector-leading User Experience Design Program has been developed in close collaboration with industry and government partners and works directly with individuals and organizations to build capacity for human-centered digital innovation and transformation in Ontario and nationwide. 

 

Through the expansion of the Laurier User Experience Program and external organizations.

The Strategic Relationship Officer will focus on building relationships with employers, alumni, industry, government  and community partners in support of Wilfrid Laurier University’s User Experience Program. You will be forging, building and maintaining essential relationships with top stakeholders in support of: brand recognition and profile, experiential learning opportunities and partnerships inside and outside of the classroom; partnership opportunities for revenue generation and sustainability through executive education and professional development programs, and research proposals.  The position also entails tracking and reporting on the relationship ecosystem.

This role, In collaboration with FLA strategies and with university strategies around career-integrated learning

(through Experiential Learning and Career Development), will support the strategic direction and leadership for the UX program and collaborate with units across the University to coordinate support for the User Experience students, industry/community/govt partners, faculty members and staff.

We are ideally seeking someone with a network and understanding of the Ontario corporate community, with a particular focus on User Experience Design, User Experience Research and User Experience Strategy.

 

Accountabilities

Strategy Development and Support

  1. In consultation and collaboration with staff in Experiential Learning and Career Development sets the strategic direction for building the robust relationship ecosystem for the UX Program at the Brantford Campus in alignment with the Laurier Strategy: 2019-2024. By identifying key stakeholder groups and identifying program features and meaningful differentiators, the UX Program will be viewed as a critical resource to industry, government and non-profit agencies.         
  2. Acts as the central point of contact for stakeholders interested in engaging in Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities with the UX Program. Represent the UX program with both internal and external stakeholders on issues pertaining to WIL.  Facilitate regular meetings of stakeholders and the creation and dissemination of progress and metrics. Supports Faculty initiatives by providing industry project sponsors for the UX Program.  
  3. In collaboration with the broader university, develops branding and marketing strategy /support for the UX Program which in turn will support student recruitment, experiential learning in the classroom, co-op work terms, job prospects after graduation, research, sponsorship, and advancement opportunities. 
  4. Leverages opportunities through relationships for revenue generation and sustainability by completing research/needs assessment on creating an executive education and/or professional development program.
  5. Develops, in consultation with stakeholders, a framework for evaluating external outreach as it pertains to enhancing teaching and learning, student success and engagement, industry/community partner and internal stakeholder satisfaction.
  6. Identifies synergies with other university priorities, recruitment, retention, career readiness, professional development, student success, community engagement, sponsorship and advancement.

Partnership Development

  1. In collaboration with the broader University, identifies, develops, implements and broadens partnerships with local, national and international industry and community partners for the purpose of enhancing and increasing the overall profile of the UX Program.
  2. Develops outreach strategies by researching and analyzing current and future labour market, occupational, industry and sectoral trends and issues that impact opportunities for Wilfrid Laurier UX students. Promotes opportunities for commercialization with students.  
  3. Collaborates with staff from: Experiential Learning, Career Development, Alumni and Donor Relations, Research Services,  and others in establishing, maintaining and managing industry/community partnership relationships including: cultivating leads to create more opportunities for students; working with industry/community partners to create student outreach, recruitment and branding campaigns; providing best practice techniques to industry/community partners looking for effective ways to connect with UX students. Facilitates connections between students and industry/community partners through activities such as:  recruitment, networking, portfolio review, conferences, and Lunch and Learn sessions.
  4. Liaises with internal stakeholders within the University to facilitate referrals and make connections between industry/community partners. Oversees the follow-up of industry/community partner leads provided by faculty, staff, students and others and identifies opportunities to develop collaborative outreach efforts.
  5. Promotes a variety of opportunities available in the UX Program (projects, research, design sprints) in an effort to attract and maintain relationships with potential and existing industry/community partners. 
  6. Seeks out opportunities for funding including liaising with financial supporters (grants) to identify potential sponsorship opportunities.

Policy and Resource Development

  1. Works with support staff to establish and maintain a central registry of industry/community partners for the UX Program. Determines policies, protocols and procedures around sharing, populating, accessing, and updating industry/community contact data, and articulating the benefits of the community partner database to stakeholders.

 

Communications

  1. Regularly updates internal and external stakeholders of developments via presentations, attendance at meetings, conferences, networking events, articles for internal newsletters, print collateral, e-mail communications, web and social media. 
  2. Promotes the value of the ecosystem to internal stakeholders to encourage expansion and enhancement of opportunities for students, including articulating the benefits of the program, sharing best practices and celebrating successes.
  3. Liaises with other Faculties and other units providing support for the UX Program to ensure consistency in messaging and keeping each other abreast of developments.

Human and Financial Resources

  1. Creates and supports a positive and supportive work environment, which fosters collaboration, integrity, innovation, creativity, accountability and excellence.   Regularly meets with team members to discuss performance and operational successes and challenges.
  2. Works with the Co-ordinator of the UX program and HR to assess staffing resource needs and establish staffing structure to effectively carry out support for the relationship ecosystem. 
  3. Responsible for collaborating on hiring new staff as well as new staff orientation, and staff development  and the creation and implementation of a department strategy for training using in-house, University and external resources, with an emphasis on ensuring knowledge of current trends and practices in relevant fields.
  4. Ensures adherence to relevant University policies and procedures and appropriate Human Resources policies and practices.
  5. Exercises budgetary responsibility for relationship management. Prepares budget forecasts and monitors expenditures, completing/retaining appropriate documentation and ensuring that budgets are adhered to. 

Administrative, Professional and Other

  1. Prepares status reports on a monthly, annual and ad hoc basis.
  2. Carries out special projects as required. Researches and develops project proposals and reports. Ensures appropriate goals, objectives, timelines, promotion, delivery and evaluation.
  3. Actively participates in strategic planning and integrated resource planning exercises.

 

 

Qualifications:

  •  University undergraduate degree required. Master’s degree preferred and/or designations in UX, Business, Technology, Entrepreneurship, or Marketing.
  •  Post-secondary school experience in a staff role or faculty level equivalent preferred. Knowledge of coop/internship education and job market in associated fields required.
  •  Previous experience in UX, specifically recruiting, selection, learning and development.
  •  Demonstrated client service, consultative sales, business/relationship development success.
  •  Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to adapt to the complex and changing University, industry and government environments.
  •  Strong business judgement with a focus on service excellence.
  •  In depth experience developing curricular and extracurricular programs for undergrad/grad students preferred.
  •  Proven ability to coach and inspire students and staff. Experience setting goals, developing plans and tracking performance

 

 

Compensation

Position Grade: EX-G

Annual Salary: $60,111 - $75,139

Hours of Work: The normal hours of work are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday (35 hours per week).
