Position Summary: This course provides an introductory knowledge and overview of the structure, components, and mandates of how governments keep their respective citizens safe from natural disasters, crime, and terrorism. More specifically, this course reviews and examines how the coordination across all federal departments and agencies responsible for the public safety of citizens is articulated and enacted. The focus of this course is upon the four pillars of public safety in Canada: National Security, Border Strategies, Countering Crime, and Emergency Management. A review and comparison of international structures of public safety and national security are also examined for comparative purpose.

 

Qualifications – Required: Master’s Degree

Qualifications – Discipline: Public Administration, Public Safety, Criminology, Digital Media, Business Administration

Qualifications - Other: Doctorate preferred. Extensive research and/or work experience in the field of public safety with a focus on the relationships and interoperability of the 4 pillars of public safety in the Canadian context: countering crime; border strategies; emergency management; and national security. Knowledge of public safety policies and/or mandates across national and/or international jurisdictions is required. Experience in teaching in an online format, with previous experience in developing courses and/or teaching in an online environment and should be receptive to incorporating pedagogical approaches   that specifically embrace online adult learners. Knowledge of learning management systems (particularly Brightspace from Desire2Learn) would be an asset.

 

Salary: $ 5,554.87
