Position Summary
CSEDI envisions a university where equity-denied students can thrive and works to build campus community capacity, awareness, and understanding to support collective responsibility for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), anti-racism, and anti-oppression, leading to a greater sense of belonging for all students. Working alongside equity-denied groups experiencing oppression on campus, CSEDI provides coordinated support to meet the diverse needs of students, while committing to continuous unlearning and learning together as a campus community.
The EDI Education and Support Coordinator supports the CSEDI’s mission to identify and address structural, cultural and social barriers to foster equity across Wilfrid Laurier University. The EDI Education and Support Coordinator brings extensive knowledge of equity, diversity, and inclusion in post-secondary education, including knowledge about student leadership development and direct student support from an EDI and anti-oppressive lens). The coordinator must be self-motivated, creative and comfortable in working with a diverse range of individual students, student leaders and student groups. They must also demonstrate excellent organization, time management, documentation, communication, interpersonal, conflict transformation, self-management, and problem-solving skills.
This position has a university-wide mandate and is based at the Waterloo Campus. The incumbent provides subject matter expertise, requiring regular interpersonal interactions and collaboration with departments across Laurier’s campuses and external partners.
Accountabilities
Equity and Inclusion Education Development & Implementation
- Serves as a resource for the development of student-focused diversity, equity and social justice related training initiatives at Wilfrid Laurier University;
- Continually gathers feedback from the Laurier community about education needs and conducts appropriate learning gap analysis to develop an education strategy and applicable learning objectives;
- Partners with existing learning resources on campus to incorporate equity-related content into existing programs as appropriate;
- Provide training and support on inclusive leadership and student development (ex. develop, facilitate, coordinate and evaluate programming for the Inclusive Leadership Certificate)
- Mobilize EDI knowledge and expertise via educational opportunities, collaborations, and consultation with student groups and Campus partners
- Invests in building positive working relationships with members of the Laurier community in support of the overall CSEDI Office mandate;
Administration & Related Duties
- Responsible for the marketing and promotion of all student-focused equity education initiatives;
- Coordinates logistics for training sessions;
- Sources and contracts with external speakers and presenters as required;
- Tracks participation for all education initiatives;
- Compiles feedback related to workshops/training sessions;
- Serves on committees related to equity and inclusion;
- Supports and provides administrative support to student employees working within the CSEDI
- Manage access to the CSEDI bookable meeting rooms and storage
- Facilitate CSEDI Student EDI funding initiatives. This includes administering the applications, coordinating decision-making and disbursement processes, managing accountability reporting and analytics
Direct Individual Student Support
- Provide direct student support from an EDI, trauma-informed and anti-oppressive lens for students seeking equity-based support
- Support students to navigate university systems and processes (making referrals, sharing information, facilitating a warm connection to appropriate resources on campus)
Support for Student Groups and Staff
- Provide EDI and programming support to student groups on campus and work with campus partners in supporting EDI efforts in student groups
- Develop programming to support student EDI leadership and capacity building pathways
- Collaborate with campus partners to provide elevated support, such as safety-planning and critical incident response
- Direct supervision of student-staff and students in placements or experiential learning opportunities as required;
- Regular meetings (weekly) with relevant staff/ campus partners, student interns, and /or student groups to keep abreast of any student group needs and upcoming programming;
- Assist with the development and delivery of student leader training sessions, education programs, and addressing equity-related concerns within the Laurier community;
Other Duties
- Guest lecture upon request;
- Triage student equity-related concerns to relevant units (i.e., Office of Human Rights and Conflict Management) following disclosures of harm or requests for resources and supports
- Support with CSEDI projects and programs as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or related field, plus one year experience with diversity, equity, and social justice focused program development and design and group facilitation
- Successful candidates must belong to one or more of the ethno-cultural groups across the African diaspora and have lived experiences of being racialized/Black. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to join and benefit from the support of the Black Faculty and Staff Caucus.
- Knowledge and understanding of equity, social justice, and anti-oppression in the context of post-secondary education Experience mentoring and developing student leaders.
- Strong group facilitation skill
- Strong understanding of post-secondary educational context, especially in relation to equity, diversity and inclusion
- Strong skills in direct student support, especially in working with equity-denied students from an equity-focused, trauma-informed and anti-oppressive lens
- Knowledge of best current practices in training and development
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Skills in conflict transformation, relational repair, de-escalation, navigating difficult conversations, and engaging with complex and contentious issues related to EDI interpersonally and systemically
- Time management and recordkeeping skills
- Ability to work through challenging situations, identify problems, analyze situations, and develop solutions to problems that are often complex
- Ability to apply knowledge about EDI and anti-oppression in student support and in work life more broadly
- Ability to work effectively both individually and in a team environment
- Experience facilitating workshops and/or programming dealing with content that relates to equity and inclusion (i.e., racial discrimination, gender discrimination)

Hours of Work: This is a full-time, continuing role. The normal hours of work are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Flexibility in hours will be required, including evening and/or weekend work due to programming and events. When possible, the manager will adjust the work schedule so that no more than 35 hours are worked in a week.
This role offers limited flexibility regarding flexible work arrangements. Please see Policy 8.14 (Flexible Work Policy) for more information. All arrangement must be approved by the direct manager. On occasion, this schedule may need to be adjusted to meet operational requirements.
Compensation:
Level: E
Hourly Rate: $42.83 - $45.28 per hour with an annual step progression on anniversary date up to $48.95.
Considerations for new hire step placements include, qualifications and length/depth of required experience, relevant market rates for similar jobs, internal equity, and estimated learning curve in starting the job.
