Position Summary:

Not your traditional choir, this ensemble focuses on show choir and music theatre styles of multi-part singing and accompanying instrumentation, with an emphasis on staged performances. Repertoire ranges from pop and rock to music theatre and jazz, and may include diverse singing cultural traditions. Students should expect some dancing and/or movement, although no previous dance experience is required. The ensemble requires both singers and instrumentalists, who will form accompanying bands for the ensemble. Note that instrumentalists may also be required to sing, but instrumentalists with little or no singing experience are warmly welcome. Instrumentalists and singers should have experience in pop, rock, jazz, music theatre or related music styles. An audition will be required to determine suitability, as well as roles within the ensemble.

 

Qualifications – Required: Master’s in Music or equivalent professional experience or post-secondary credential, or a bachelor's degree with extensive experience directing vocal ensembles, musical theatre, show choir, or related genres will be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree. Experience teaching contemporary commercial singing; Experience directing vocal ensembles or music productions.

Qualifications - Asset: University teaching experience; staging or choreography experience; directing small instrumental ensemble (rock/pop); pedagogy in contemporary commercial singing (training in or teaching of).

 

Salary: $12,275.20 ($6,137.60 each term)
