We currently have an opportunity to join the Laurier community as a Printing Services Operator I.
The Printing Services Operator I will work in the Printing Services department at WLU. The incumbent will have a working knowledge of electronic print media systems submission and other data transport systems used in electronic printing, both colour and black and white. Working in a fast-paced environment, the incumbent must be energetic and demonstrate exceptional customer service skills. They will require flexibility to change priorities at a moment’s notice, and maintain the operation of production equipment. The incumbent will demonstrate their exceptional organizational skills while managing a large volume of print and finishing with tight deadlines. The incumbent will receive goods and related materials to be used in the production, completion of print work and to replenish department stationary supply. He/she will move printed materials, complete bindery processes as required, prepare completed orders for shipment and ship orders to the appropriate department as necessary. This position requires a working knowledge and experience in the bindery equipment and shipping operations of a Print Shop.
Accountabilities
Print Production
- Ability to coordinate production in a high volume print shop and prioritize work flow of printing, finishing & shipping projects
- Responsible to operate Production equipment & ability to multitask with colour, B&W and finishing equipment
- Assist in production scheduling ensuring customer project time lines are met and change deadlines as required
- Ability to use PC technology in print production environment
- Maintain equipment in working condition: call for service, replace toner and other consumables as required
- Ability to use wide format printer and associated laminating equipment, preparing posters, banners, etc.
- Ability to operate Fold & Crease unit and multiple cutting equipment include large format guillotine cutter
- Ability to operate various hand operated Bindery equipment, ensuring bindery specification meet job output, lubricates and maintains assigned machine to ensure its optimum operation
- Inspect all printed products, ensuring quality standards are maintained and comply with clients’ and company’s specs
- Compiling month end production equipment reports as required
- Completion of error free customer print job requirements
Shipping & Receiving
- Prepare completed orders for shipment and ship to appropriate department
- Responsible to complete all shipping of completed print orders daily
- Receive incoming materials used in production on a daily basis
- Move received goods and materials to the appropriate area of the department, keeping production organized, meeting Health & Safety standards
Customer Service
- Maintain high customer service levels
- Communicate with customers if there are issues with request print jobs
- Work to achieve Printing Services goals
- Cross train with other Printing Services Staff
Qualifications
- High School diploma with 2 years of recent, related experience.
- Excellent computer skills
- Strong problem solving skills
- Knowledge of Printing Services operations, including bindery, shipping and receiving.
- Experience operating print production equipment listed above.
- General mechanical skills.
- Working knowledge of graphic setups and paper and materials related to the xerographic process.
- Excellent customer service/satisfaction skills.
- Strong organizational, communication and decision-making ability.
- Proven ability to complete numerous tasks simultaneously in order to meet customer requirements.
- Ability to adapt and learn new procedures
- Ability to work as a team player.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Ability to lift 30kg.
- Must be able to work shifts during peak periods as required with compensatory time off.
This position has been deemed eligible for educational equivalencies.
Hours of Work: This is a full-time, continuing position. The normal hours of work are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Flexibility in hours will be required, including evening and/or weekend work due to peak seasons. When possible, the manager will adjust the work schedule so that no more than 35 hours are worked in a week. This role requires daily in person attendance and is not eligible for a flexible work arrangement as per Policy 8.14 (Flexible Work Policy).
Compensation:
Level: B
Rate of Pay: $31.48 to $33.28 per hour with an annual step progression on anniversary date up to $35.98 per hour. Considerations for new hire step placements include, qualifications and length/depth of required experience, relevant market rates for similar jobs, internal equity, and estimated learning curve in starting the job.
