Position Summary

 

Reporting to the Manager, CSEDI, the incumbent will provide support in the development of educational and training materials, manage CSEDI social media and communications, and build and maintain partnerships with external community partners.  Working to support student EDI at Laurier, CSEDI engages actively in the following core areas: i) community building through student-led collectives ii) education and advocacy, and iii) research and policy development. The Resource Development and Outreach Specialist will support CSEDI to foster a culture of inclusion on campus through educational equity initiatives, including the development of EDI-focused learning materials for internal stakeholders and educational resources that communicate CSEDI’s programming, events, and support services. The incumbent will be responsible for developing components of programs and initiatives that advance strategic EDI objectives. The incumbent will lead social media content creation and communications management for CSEDI.  They will also strengthen pre-existing relationships with community partners across campuses while building new collaborations with community EDI practitioners in Kitchener-Waterloo, Brantford, and Milton through coordinated outreach strategies. The Outreach Specialist will work closely with internal and external partners to ensure that student EDI programming is achieving maximum impact for equity-deserving students.

 

Using extensive knowledge of equity, diversity, and inclusion in post-secondary education and adult education principles, the incumbent must be self-motivated, creative and comfortable delivering information to a variety of audiences. They must also demonstrate excellent organization, time management, creativity, communication, interpersonal, self-management, and problem-solving skills.

 

 

 

Accountabilities

Communications & Outreach

  • Provide leadership in CSEDI relationship building and process development with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Drive marketing and communications efforts, including the development of CSEDI communication materials and educational resources.
  • Liaise with campus partners for pan-institutional programming such as Black History Month.
  • Ensure continuity of programming and communications across campuses.
  • Undertake efforts to build community awareness of equity and inclusion through education-related initiatives on campus.
  • Invest in building positive working relationships with Laurier community members to support the overall CSEDI mandate.
  • Oversee and maintain websites, promotional materials, and social media messaging.
  • Promote events and programming in student EDI across campus community
  • Organize and run community building and engagement initiatives for CSEDI

EDI Resource Development & Knowledge Mobilization

  • Develop EDI-focused resources to complement CSEDI’s educational and awareness initiatives.
  • Mobilize EDI knowledge as part of community education and collective EDI skill-building through social media and other platforms.
  • Design and create CSEDI promotional content and materials.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and frame proposal ideas that reflect programmatic priorities and community needs.
  • Drafting and editing EDI educational content

Administration & Other Duties

  • Responsible for the marketing and promotion of all student-focused equity education initiatives.
  • Organize and facilitate special event planning for CSEDI collectives.
  • Oversee the programming and delivery of the Diversity Certificate
  • Guest lectures upon request.
  • Triaging student equity-related concerns to relevant units (i.e., Office of Human Rights and Conflict Management) following disclosures of harm or requests for resources and support.
  • Coordinate other projects as needed to support the communications and outreach portfolio and the CSEDI mandate.

 

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience related to the key needs of this role
  • Minimum 2 years experience
  • Experience with diversity, equity, and social justice focused program development and design
  • Experiencing in developing and creating social media and communications content, specially from an EDI lens
  • Knowledge and understanding of equity and social justice, and anti-oppression in the context of post-secondary education
  • Experience working with students and providing interpersonal support
  • Experience with community building and outreach
  • Strong group facilitation skills
  • Strong understanding of post-secondary educational context
  • Strong experience working with students in equity, inclusion, and social justice
  • Knowledge of wise current practices in training, knowledge mobilization and development of educational content
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Time management and recordkeeping skills
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and in a team environment
  • Experience facilitating workshops and/or programming dealing with content that relates to equity and inclusion (i.e., racial discrimination, gender discrimination, etc.)

Compensation

Position Level : D

Rate of pay:   $36.14 - $38.20  with an annual step progression on anniversary date up to $41.30. Considerations for new hire step placements include, qualifications and length/depth of required experience, relevant market rates for similar jobs, internal equity, and estimated learning curve in starting the job.

 

Hours of Work: This is a Full time continuing . normal hours of work are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.  Flexibility in hours will be required, including evening and/or weekend work due to programming and events.  When possible, the manager will adjust the work schedule so that no more than 35 hours are worked in a week.
